Glossary -> Material, aka Parts
Parts are the things that your Factory assembles into finished goods. Parts are things like Nuts, Bolts, Screws, Panels, Gauges, Power Supplies, etc. SAP refers to Parts as Material. The word Material does a better job of representing actual Parts, as well as other things, like paint, that are used in the production process. I generally use the words Parts and Material interchangeably, depending on which word sounds better. I tend to use the term Material instead of Parts when I am referring to Containers of Parts being moved around, as in "moving Material from the Warehouse to the Factory". Once those Containers of Parts have made it to their Point-of-Use, I tend to refer to the Parts, even though they are still in those same Containers.
